The course will instruct you on creating your own robust paper surface which will allow for the introduction of water based media such as acrylic, watercolor and water based oil inks. In this workshop we will be exploring and experimenting with a few methods of encaustic painting techniques: Painting on the waxed board, texturizing and using color in the wax and moving it with hot air or the iron. The artist discovers recurring patterns in nature, the relationships of shape and colour through a comparison of a still life and a landscape. The materials used are encaustic wax on hardboard and acrylic paints.

Contrary to popular belief, it does not signify that you splash paint around without any preconceived though or plan then put a frame around it. Using acrylics, we will have fun playing around with different abstract formats. This hands-on workshop will help you find your own abstract style.

Cet atelier sera présenté en anglais. As with all artistic endeavours, once we can see, we can paint. Seeing the shapes necessary to form the face does not have to be complicated. The simpler, the better. We need very little to create a recognizable portrait: the correct value (the range of light to dark) and the correct shape in the correct place. Two values suffice: black and white. In order to make a more refined portrait we add more values (gray tones) and colour. To keep things simple we will limit our palette (the range of colours) to two plus black and white. Amazingly, this is the way of the old masters. We can create Rembrandts with just black, white, yellow and red! Are you ready? Let’s go!
